random-elsen asked:

hello! what so called weird comics you can recommend ?

dont know specifically about ‘weird’ (the post i made about weird webcomics was largely based in my personal observations as someone who grew up online) but here are some webcomics I like just off the top of my head

  • what happens next (also go follow max on twitter and give him your money!!)
  • drop outs (I was so obsessed with this in college, much of the writing here re: mental illness rings true on a very deep level)
  • sad sack (I love sad sack so much. there’s so many little nuances to the characters and things build up in such interesting and meaningful ways. it’s incredibly refreshing to have protagonists like this alongside a writer who is more than capable of exploring the implications of their actions. if you want to look at the individual issues before buying the whole thing, you can look here)
  • kill six billion demons (I am terribly behind on this. but its great. “reach heaven through violence” is a part of my vocabulary because of this comic)

Maximum Linux - October 1999
Penguin Computing

it’s funny how staff basically announced “we want a userbase that is so inept and dumb that we have to pick what kind of content shows up on their feed for them” and then threw a coat of twitter-colored paint over the desktop layout not even a few weeks later.

fyi tumblr is fucking over people with custom domains

re-lmayer:

if you have a custom domain set, DO NOT UNTICK THE BUTTON on blog settings. you’re not allowed to add it back. (nope, that’s not mentioned anywhere on blog settings itself.) if you switch hosts and need to update nameservers, congrats! you’re fucked

custom domains were a feature that’s been available over a decade, but they’ve been unceremoniously removed. the idea of “legacy” domains is a joke

this is doubly egregious because they absolutely could be selling domains for people that don’t have one, while still allowing those of us that already had a domain to keep using ours. they also don’t even allow you to pay to use your own. so if someone bought a domain specifically to use on tumblr, if they accidentally untick the button then poof! they’re fucked because they can’t re-buy their own domain from tumblr

it’s honestly pathetic how much of a transparent cash grab this is at worst, and how badly implemented this was at best. this is what happens when you accept incompetency as a modus operandi bc “lol quirky hellsite”

i highly, HIGHLY recommend not investing in this feature due to that incompetency and lack of transparency

I generally tend to agree with the critique people have about webtoons/the modern webcomic ‘economy’, but I think it’s a bit silly to say that the existence of webtoons has further marginalized the existence of weird webcomics. my friends, you are rarely going to find weird stuff on mainstream hosting sites. even back in the 2000s on places like smackjeeves where the average output was considerably more personal and less refined was still populated by people determined to make the next bleach. or gravitation.

i love the ideology on this site that gnc cis people are Epic and Break Boundaries All The Time but trans people constantly Enforce Gender Stereotypes

they come by it honestly, this is basically standard dogma in US gender studies/queer studies/women’s studies, reflects a vision of gender transgression as a fun party trick for people who can afford it rather than as a lived experience which people have all kinds of levels of agency in

i think kids online should really get back to making internetsonas instead of whatever fuckshit this is with putting their entire real faces, names, ages, and such everywhere. you’re not gonna realize how nice internet privacy is until you dont have it anymore and no chance at getting it back. make up a guy and a name and just be that online. make up conflicting details about your completely made up backstory. make a fursona or something

I really miss having a group of friends and I resent only being able to remember my youth as perpetual labor…it’s difficult having always been mature in a way that is now just standard for my age group, while also being uniquely stunted due to lacking the social enrichment that makes most people interesting and well rounded. What’s kind of ironic is that I conceptualized saving enough money as a way to escape my circumstances, but even though I have a decent deal saved up I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do. I don’t want to work, but I don’t have places to go or things to do. I wouldn’t even know what I would want to do if I went back to school (school is such a prestige thing to me that going back to merely try out something I was interested feels ridiculous). I don’t want to move out because it’s pointless to pay rent with no income. this is my nagata kabi era but i dont even have bangs.
